Wrinkle Relaxers

Neuromodulators:

Anti-aging treatments

As you age, your skin gradually loses its youthful elasticity and begins sag and develop creases. Some of the most visible wrinkles are those that show when you express yourself – and they can make even a cheerful individual appear anxious, tired, worried, or angry. Wrinkle relaxers, also called neuromodulators, are injectable treatments that cause the muscles causing wrinkles to relax to restore a refreshed, youthful facial look.

What are wrinkle relaxers?

Wrinkle relaxers are FDA-approved injectable treatments made from a naturally-occurring substance called botulism toxin. When wrinkle relaxers are strategically injected into targeted muscles in your face, they temporarily block nerve signals to and from those muscles to stop them from contracting and forming wrinkles.

Wrinkle relaxers have several benefits, including:

  • Smoothing the “11” lines between your brows
  • Smoothing horizontal lines on your forehead
  • Reducing the appearance of smile lines on the corners eyes
  • Reducing the appearance of upper lip wrinkles
  • Raising the corners of the mouth
  • Treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Our wrinkle relaxer products

At DC Cosmetics, we are proud to offer all three of the FDA-approved wrinkle relaxers:

  • BOTOX®
  • Dysport®
  • Xeomin®

Each wrinkle relaxer provides similar results, but some patients respond better to one than the other, and a specific product may last longer in some patients.

How do wrinkle relaxers work?

The essential function of wrinkle relaxers is to interfere with the nerve-muscle junction near the place they are injected, essentially paralyzing the muscles. The benefits are derived from this intentional paralysis, which takes two to three days to take effect. By reducing activity in these muscles, we stop the muscles from creating and accentuating the creases in your face, as well as promote the natural processes of skin remodeling and smoothing.

What to expect with
wrinkle relaxer treatment

When you arrive for injections of wrinkle relaxers, Dr. Khalifeh will start by discussing your goals and working with you to develop a plan to accomplish them.

Once started, the treatment takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, and most patients report minimal pain and discomfort. After receiving the injections, you may experience mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort at the injection sites, but these will fade rapidly as the results begin to appear over the following days.

You can return to work or life activities immediately following the injections, but there will be some limitations placed on your physical motion for at least four or five hours after the injections.

FAQ

The results typically last for four to six months, and you undergo regular treatments to maintain your look.

There is a very low risk of side effects or complications from wrinkle relaxer injections, and side effects that do occur are short-lasting and usually resolve on their own within a couple of weeks. The most common side effects include bruising, bleeding, infection, and paralysis of neighboring muscles.

The cost of treatment varies based on which product we use and how much is required to accomplish your goals. A typical BOTOX® treatment can cost anywhere from $400 to $750, while an equivalent Dysport® treatment may cost $300 to $650. Dr. Khalifeh will work with you to use the least amount of product possible to accomplish your goals.

There has been a true revolution in cosmetic enhancement, shifting away from surgery towards simpler and safer alternatives to achieve outstanding results, over the last fifteen years.
