VI Peel

VI Peel is a safe, effective approach to achieving younger looking skin. The peel provides superior results for all skin types. Regular use of the VI Peel (two to four peels per year) along with proper home care will improve the tone, texture and clarity of the skin.

What is a VI Peel?

This revolutionary peel is virtually painless and safe for all skin types. The peel can be performed in as little as fifteen minutes with little to no downtime. The VI Peel contains a blend of TCA (Trichloracectic Acid), Salicyclic Acid, Phenol, Retinoic Acid, Vitamins and Microelements. This peel works over a period of time of five to seven days. Once the peel is applied to the skin, most patients begin to peel after day two; after day seven beautiful radiant skin is revealed.

VI Peel precautions

Patients with active cold sores or warts, wounded, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis, or inflammatory rosecea in the area to be treated should not get the VI Peel as the procedure could potentially precipitate a flare up or spreading. Inform the doctor if you have any history of herpes simplex.

Patients with a history of allergies, rashes, or other skin reactions may be sensitive to treatment. VI Peel should not be performed on patients with an allergy to salicylates (i.e., asprin). This peel is not recommended if you have taken Accutane within the past year, or received chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This procedure should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women.

Avoid any harsh treatments for one week leading to the peel, such as microdermabrasion, waxing, electrolysis or any aggressive chemicals such as strong exfoliants since these treatments will irritate the skin.

Day of the procedure

The VI Peel treatment is very convenient as it can be performed in Dr. Khalifeh’s office and requires no pre-treatment.

On the morning of your procedure, wash your face with the usual moisturizer. Do not apply make-up. After the skin is cleaned with pure acetone, VI Peel will be applied topically to your skin. Patients typically experience a warm, tingly sensation that quickly subsides. The procedure only takes 15 to 30 minutes, but the patient must leave the peel on the skin for four hours.

Immediately following the peel, skin may look light yellow, red or tan. The yellow color is due to the Retinoic Acid included in the formulation; it is temporary and will fade in minutes.

Post-peel instructions

Day one

  • Do not wash, touch or apply make-up to treated areas for four hours
  • However, if you have itching or irritation prior to the four hour time period, you may wash treated area with a mild cleanser and water. Do not rub treated areas with anything harsh
  • After four hours have passed, wash the peeled areas and apply a thin layer of the Post Peel Protectant (moisturizer) or you may apply it without washing the skin first if desired
  • Make-up can be applied over treated areas after the peel solution is removed
  • Approximately one hour before bedtime, wash face with mild cleanser and water, dry well, and apply one of the post-peel towelettes to the peeled area

Day two

  • Continue to apply a light layer of the VI Derm Post Peel Protectant (Moisturizer) two to four times daily for two weeks; this will relieve any irritation and redness
  • Approximately one hour before bedtime, wash face with a mild cleanser and water, dry well and apply one of the post-peel towelettes to the peeled area

Day three—five

  • You will start the peeling process by seeing a slight sloughing of the skin. Treatments performed on the neck, chest, back or hands take slightly longer to start peeling usually up to a week. In very thick skinned patients, the peeling may not be very obvious, but you will obtain results
  • Refrain from picking or pulling at the skin, so redness, irritation and hyper-pigmentation do not occur
  • When washing treated areas, old skin will slough off. Wash and pat dry. Do not scrub

Day six—after

  • You may resume your usual skin care product regimen. If your skin is still sensitive or becomes red or irritated, wait until sensitivity subsides

Post-peel reactions

In rare cases, sensitive individuals may experience pain, a burning or stinging sensation, swelling, or extreme redness after the VI Peel. If this occurs, you should wash your face with a mild cleanser and cool water. Use of the Post peel moisturizer (included) will soothe redness or irritation.

The post-peel pads should be used immediately after initial peel application and before bedtime on nights one and two. If use of the pads causes excessive itching or irritation, simply wash the face. Even if the first pad was not tolerated, the application of second and third pad is to be attempted, as in most cases it will be tolerated. If irritation reoccurs then wash off with soap and water and proceed with all steps as instructed.
