this patient is ONE YEAR after brazilian buttock lift.

Background:  The Brazilian buttock lift or fat transfer operation to the buttocks has been part of Dr. Khalifeh’s practice for the past ten  years.  It has become one of the most popular procedures done in conjunction with liposuction and his patients have been very satisfied with the lasting results that this procedure can achieve. It is commonly used as an add-on procedure to liposuction procedures.

testimonial from actual Brazilian Buttock Lift Patient:

“Dr. Khalifeh,

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the outstanding work you performed for me. The results are better then I could have imagined and I am more then pleased.

I’ve been in the aesthetic industry, as you know, for a long time but have never been the recipient of results that have changed my body image and confidence levels as much as these.

Above all else, I appreciate your integrity, honest professional opinion and sincere concern for the best possible outcome (which we achieved!)

Thank you, M.N

What is it?:  The Brazilian buttock “lift” is a combination of liposuction/liposculpture in which fat is removed, and fat transfer in which the fat is processed and reinjected into the buttocks. the incisions are very similar to the ones used in liposuction.  the fat has to be removed in a gentler fashion than in traditional liposuction by using lower suction powers,  hence via a slower process..  The processed fat is then injected into the buttocks in small droplets.

the permanence of the results is related to the expertise of the surgeon and the healing process that varies from patient to patient.  It is inevitable that some of the transferred fat will resorb, but permanent transfer rates of up to 70%-80% are possible.

How much does it Cost:
This is typically priced as an add-on procedure to liposuction.  The add-on cost in addition to basic liposuction will be about $2000-3000  depending on the volumes. The base fees for liposuction, after our current promotions, starts at $3500 for one area when done under awake tumescent technique.   The cheapest “BBL” is therefore about $5500 in our practice, for awake lower back/flank lipo and fat graft to buttocks, although on occasion for skinnier patients we may lower the price a bit more.

Should you gain or lose weight before a BBL?

fat cells will get smaller and larger as you gain or lose weight.  I am not personally in favor of trying to gain weight before a procedure.  While it is true that there would be more fat “volume”, there won’t be more fat cells.  The transferred cells will  get smaller and larger in the future depending on the weight fluctuations, therefore the patient is best served by being at the weight that they want to maintain for the long term at the time of the procedure.

What Type of Anesthesia is needed?

i offer generally procedures done under one of two options:

a) LOCAL ANESTHESIA ONLY: in this technique, the tumescent fluid contains lidocaine which will be used to numb the areas of harvest as well as the buttocks.  there will be some discomfort during the injection of the  numbing, as well as the fat grafting procedure, but I have done hundreds of cases using this technique, and I consider it very safe and ideal for cases around or under 500cc.  with the safety advisory, this is now the majority of cases as we are limited to injecting in the more superficial planes.

b) LOCAL ANESTHESIA PLUS GENERAL ANESTHESIA: in this technique, an anesthesiologist or anesthetist works in conjunction with Dr. Khalifeh to put the patient to sleep.  then the same steps are followed as above.  In areas of larger volume lipo or fat graft, this is appropriate.

What are the risks?
The Brazilian buttock lift carries risks, including but not limited to infection, bleeding, scarring, pain,  Asymmetry.

In addition, BBL is under current close scrutiny by a safety task force of plastic surgeons, in order to try to increase the safety of this procedure.  this is because intramuscular or submuscular injection of fat can lead to fat emboli, which are dangerous and sometimes even fatal.

Here is a copy of the advisory that plastic surgeons received

Gluteal-Fat-Grafting-advisory-02-06-18_0

In accordance with this, in my practice, I have stopped larger volumes fat graft and instead follow the recommendation to do a staged approach for women trying to go larger.  this is in order to minimize any risk of the fat being injected into the wrong plane or under too much pressure.

Does Fat Grafting Last?

what about the recovery:?  you will need one week off of work.  you will need to sleep on your stomach, and minimize whenever possible, extended sitting until the fat takes in its new position.

BBL, or fat transfer to the buttocks, is most typically done in conjunction with flank/lower back liposuction.  The combination of liposuction to the lower back and fat transfer to the buttocks creates a powerful reshaping of the buttock appearance.
