Arm Lift – brachioplasty Washington DC

Arm Lift – brachioplasty Washington DC

The purposes of a brachioplasty is to remove and  tighten loose skin and remove fat in the posterior arm region.  Many patients after massive weight loss complain about  an embarrassing “bat wing” appearance under the arm.  For milder cases, Dr. Khalifeh will consider a smartlipo arms   procedure or a mini-brachioplasty.

For more extreme cases, especially those involving a history of massive weight loss, a traditional brachioplasty can tighten loose skin that extends from the underarm area to the elbow.

The Benefits of a long-scar/traditional Brachioplasty:

For patients suffering from thin hanging skin after massive weight loss, nothing is more satisfying than a traditional brachioplasty.

The tradeoff is removing that excess skin in return for a rather long scar, but in clothing, the tradeoff is generally very positive

Outside clothing, the patient’s individual choice becomes important.  there is no question that the scar is long, and sometimes visible. Meeting with Dr. Khalifeh prior to surgery for a consultation becomes important in weighting the benefits for you.

How is an arm lift procedure performed?

Generally, here is what to expect:

•Dr. Khalifeh will mark the incision on your arms and torso, extending across the axilla. The exact location and length of the incisions varies from patient to patient and must be customized the the pattern of looseness.

•This procedure is generally performed under General anesthesia for your comfort.

•Some liposuction may be performed

•The incisions then will be made, and the excess skin is removed.

• The skin is then brought together in a plastic surgery fashion to minimize scarring

•A gauze dressing and a compression garment will be applied and drains may be placed.

What is a short scar brachioplasty:

Limited-incision brachioplasty is an option for people with only minimal skin loosenss.  It combines smartlipo of the arms with removal of excess skin thru a skin tuck into the arm pit region.  Generally, patients that need a long arm brachioplasty cannot expect good results from a short scar brachioplasty, however when the excess is minimal, this becomes possible.

Dr. Khalifeh will examine you and advise you on what he thinks the best option is for your
