Laser Liposuction DC
Liposuction and Laser Liposuction DC: |Before/After|
So you have a stubborn area of fat and are considering liposuction? Here’s an example of what can be achieved with a liposuction procedure:
Types of Liposuction Offered at our Liposuction Specialty Center:
1) Laser Liposuction: Laser assisted liposuction is one of our most recommended procedures, as it offers some extra skin tightening compared to traditional laser. We employ the smartlipo triplex laser by cynosure, the most advanced smartlipo machine available. Laser liposuction can also be done without general anesthesia for smaller individual areas, making this a very popular option.
2) Tumescent Liposuction: We also perform tumescent liposuction and Power assisted liposuction (micro-aire) under anesthesia for higher volume cases, or for cases where the fat cells will be transferred elsewhere such as fat transfer to the buttocks or fat transfer to breast.
Our goal is to match our patients with the best technique and advice after our individual examination. We find that approximately 30% of the patients we see are deemed not to be good liposuction candidates, and for the rest of combination of laser liposuction and tumescent liposuction can be tailored to best reach their goals. M.R. Khalifeh will discuss the techniques with the patient and help the patient choose the best technique to achieve her or his desired results.
The ABC’s of Liposuction and Smartlipo:
There are may different techniques and technologies available, and one must differentiate between Technique Used, Technology Used, and Anesthesia Used.
Technique Used: Pretty much all modern liposuction procedures start with the infusion of Tumescent Fluid. Tumescent fluid is composed of lactated ringers, lidocaine for pain control, epinephrine for bleeding control, and bicarbonate to make the infusion less painful. The exact dosages used depend on the area being treated. Sometimes you may see someone refer to the wet technique, or superwet technique. This means they are infusing more or less tumescent than the fat being removed. There are reasons to do so, but ultimately beyond knowing that all surgical techniques (laser, smartlipo, slimlipo, vaser, traditional, tumescent…) will start with this fluid solution being infiltrated in the area to be treated.
Technology Used: After the infusion of the solution above, the surgeon may decide to use a fat breaking and/or skin tightening technology. The skin tightening and fat breaking technologies fall into Lasers ( such as SmartLipo) or ultrasound (such as Vaser). There is also a powerassisted liposuction called microaire, and there is a water jet assisted machine, and those machines help break up the fat. There are advantages and disadvantages of each Laser and other other machines. Our center owns advanced laser technology such as Smartlipo Triplex that we employ when needed.
Anesthesia: The basic decision here is awake or asleep. Many of my patients want to stay awake during the procedure to avoid general anesthesia. During awake procedures, the patients is kept comfortable by the numbing medications. Click here for more information on anesthesia/discomfort during laser liposuction. Click here to see examples of Awake patients and standing positions. For more involved cases, an anesthesiologist can administer more anesthesia such as twilight or general anesthesia.
Liposuction and Laser Lipo Recovery
Recovery with single area smartlipo can be as short as a weekend for return to work. For more involved cases such as multiple area liposuction and fat transfer cases, recovery for return to work is about 5-7 days.
Weight Control and Liposuction:
We don’t recommend using liposuction as a weight control method. It is a body reshaping method, rather than a weight control device. This important distinction must be realized in order to achieve long term maintainable results using liposuction. Please read this post on weight loss versus liposuction.
If I choose to do Awake Smartlipo, will it Hurt?
We tell patients that smartlipo is a tolerable procedure for most patients that don’t want anesthesia. If I’m awake, what is the numbing process like? see video of numbing. Alternatively, an anesthesiologist can administer anesthesia.
Our Popular “Techniques” Page: Where are the incisions placed and other surgical questions.
We have performed thousands of procedures, and over the years, we have created a library of more in-operative and area specific details on the surgery. If you are interested, you may want to explore our techniques and incision pages.
